Hi
I`m having huge cravings for REAL Japanese food - like ramen and sushi. Good stuff. Can anyone point me in the right direction for ramen and gyoza? or real sushi not this fusion stuff. Has anyone gone to this place called FIN in North York? Is it worth checking out? I`m starving just thinking about food. ![]() |

Ramen - unfortunately, there are no good ramen places in Toronto. Ajisei/Ajisai (I forgot which is which) is not that great. I have had mixed reviews from different locations and it goes from bad to worse. I guess I am spoiled with good ramen in Japan. I think Ematei serves good ramen but they only have chashuu miso ramen I think.
Sushi. Everything that is not Japanese owned seems pretty bland and overpriced for what you receive. If you are able to go to J-Town, you can get sushi from the Fish Market or Tora Sushi for a decent price. The rice taste flavourful, the fish taste fresh and you actually get more fish than rice (unless you like paying for rice at a "sushi restaurant"). The price is a little bit more than the average sushi place in Toronto but its worth the trip. For actual places to buy sushi, I like Sushi Marche on Queen East (1105 Queen Street East) and 930 Sushi (on 930 Queen Street West). Both places are unfortunately take out only. If you up you are willing to pay more then I recommend: Take Sushi, Solo Sushi, Cafe Michi, Hashimoto and Sushi Kaji are all great places with more variety. |
